What is art therapy?
Art therapy is an allied health profession. Art therapy combines aspects of counselling and the creative arts to support a person’s emotional, cognitive, physical and spiritual wellbeing.
What happens in an art therapy session?
In an art therapy session, we collaborate to find a focus for your session. Some of the things we might explore include:
Dealing with challenging emotions and experiences, exploring identity and life purpose.
Managing and processing stressful life events.
Identifying patterns in our thinking and behaviour.
Giving voice to different parts of the self and exploring their needs and desires.
Exploring self-compassion, mindfulness and other self-care practices.
I will guide you to use creative arts modalities to express, explore and feel.
No previous art experience or skill is needed.
Options for creative expression include:
Drawing, painting, clay, sound, movement, music, writing, poetry and spoken word, sculpture, collage, printmaking, photography/video, collecting & gathering organic materials, puppetry and more.
Together we will explore and make meaning of what you create in the session.
